With the explanation finished, the army leaves to search for Alfonse's sister Sharena, who was sent to the World of Mystery on a scouting mission. Since the Askrans do not have the power to simply close the gateways, they instead formed the Order of Heroes to oppose Embla in combat. For centuries, the two countries worked peacefully together to open and close the gateways, but in recent years, the Emblians have instead been abusing their power to leave the gateways open, and invade the Heroes' worlds. The royals of Askr have the power to open these gateways, and the royals of Embla have the power to close them. Anna and Alfonse explain to Kiran that the "gateways" mentioned by the masked man are the entry points into the various Heroes' worlds.
